The Differences in iPhone Screens by Model

Have you recently broken your iPhone screen and wondered if one model screen is the same as another? Have you ever wanted to put a different model screen on your phone because you only have that model available? If the previous question set applies to you, the following article will likely clear up some of your questions.

iPhone 2G (first generation): this model iPhone was one of the best ever designed. That being said, this screen is likely the least user friendly of all to replace. The screen is a one piece unit with the glass /digitizer and LCD that are inseparable. The connection cables are unique to this model.

iPhone 3G: this model iPhone paved the way for a much more user friendly repair. The glass is now removable from the front of the phone separate from the LCD. This allows for a much cheaper and easier glass repair. Once again, like all models of the iPhone, while the screens look similar, they all have different connections.

iPhone 3GS: this model introduces the oleophobic screen. This really does not do that much, simply is “oil fearing” meaning that the screen will not fingerprint as easily. That being said, no you cannot use the 3GS screen on the 3G. The 3GS setup is virtually identical to the 3G, with different connectors of course.

iPhone 4: this screen is novel in the fact that the LCD is much more vibrant than the previous models. Apple also boasts that the screen is made of helicopter glass. That being said, they made the screen with the glass being the primary impact point when it hits the ground. The result is: helicopter glass broken. The screen is also oleophobic. This screen regresses to it’s old profile of being one unit with the LCD. This means a much more expensive repair.

This should help when approaching an iPhone screen repair.

Are Free Reverse Phone Number Lookups Entirely Free?

Many popular search engines make free reverse phone lookups a breeze. If you want to nail down that aggravating telemarketer or identify a mystery caller, the information super-highway may just offer a quick, free solution for you… or not. The big question is, “How much information do you need”?

Because 80% of searches are done using Google, we will start there. You enter the phone number (area code first) into the search box. The “phonebook” search engine then scours business and residential listings based on your entry. If the number is a land line or a cell phone number used as a business contact you are in luck. Results indicating a business number should have a full address with the number as well as previous addresses where the number was used. When the number brings up an individual, there is typically only their name, city, and state. Google also has an interactive map of the address for businesses (or town for individuals).

What about other search engines? Others, such as Yahoo and Bing, provide similar free results. A sample Yahoo search I tried of my father’s home phone number gave me the same info as Google did without the perk of having an interactive map. To provide more details, Yahoo directed me to a people search website called Intelius that will provide a reverse phone lookup with address, relatives, and people search for a low fee.

A drawback of free lookups is that cell phone numbers only show up if they are used for a business. With many individuals using cell phones and no landline, this presents a problem as these numbers are often unlisted.

The solution for those seeking more information than a free search will provide is to use sites such as the aforementioned Intelius or Phone Detective. As with any online activity, choose a reputable search method so your information remains strictly confidential.
